Top British Teams [1980-81]
|
British newspapers have always been involved in football, and come 1980, the Daily Star weighed in with a sticker collection and album of its own. Each team was afforded 14 stickers, each of them slightly smaller than usual, and originally attached in pairs. They were laid out in the album in alphabetical order. We have to query something though - sticker [15]. Both the Daily Star and FKS used this photo for Des Bremner - but surely it's Gordon Cowans again? Did Bremner ever not have a moustache?? And lastly - look at sticker [28]. Withe had just joined from Newcastle and so the compilers of the set had little choice but to include him in black and white stripes!

Sticker backs
Name, sticker number and basic career data are given, and where the same players appear, the text on the back exactly matches that used by Transimage the previous season. For some reason the print is sideways as compared to the fronts of the stickers. More images will be added below, as they come in.
Photography
As had happened the previous year, non-Panini albums used photos from the same shoot as Panini's previous collection - so the images above are therefore similar to those seen back in Football 80. FKS did the same thing this year, so there are three sets known with similar photos. (In fact, on a couple of stickers ([15], [18]) night photos were used for some reason, and these are identical shots in the Daily Star and FKS albums, with just the level of zoom adjusted.) We thought it would be interesting to show a side-by-side comparison. Ken McNaught - why not?
